Dermal Fillers

At The Beach Cosmetic Clinic, we use high quality injectable  dermal fillers to help create symmetry, balance and a youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are a malleable clear gel that is composed of hyaluronic acid, a compound that is naturally produced by our body.

Areas we augment:

  • Cheeks
  • Lips
  • Temples
  • Glabellar Lines (between the eyebrows)
  • Nasolabial Folds (from the wing of the nose to the angle of the mouth)
  • Jawline
  • Under the eyes
  • Chin
  • Hands
  • Liquid Nose Job

Fillers, as they are commonly called, create volume and reposition tissue. As we age we lose facial volume, bone reabsorbs and our face starts to slowly hollow and drop. Fillers are extremely effective, hence their massive popularity worldwide. They are very often used in conjunction with Botox, a type of neuromodulator, but the two products work very differently in how they reduce the effects of time. Where as Botox reduces the effect of muscle contraction which causes wrinkles, Fillers replace the facial volume loss that accompanies aging. Fillers are also excellent in enhancing the fullness of your lips and contouring cheeks whether due to genetics or aging.

Teosyal®

TEOSYAL product line up; Teosyal Ultimate, Teosyal Global, Teosyal Kiss, Teosyal Ultra Deep, Teosyal Redensity II, and Redensity I.

At The Beach Cosmetic Clinic we exclusively use Teosyal® products as they offer the most complete range of 100% non-animal resorbable hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. Each Teosyal injectable differs in gel densities and unique properties to treat various areas of the face to achieve exceptional results.

Teosyal fillers are manufactured in Switzerland, where they follow the most strict quality standards and testing and are the purest and most advanced dermal fillers available in Canada. Teosyal RHA is the first filler range with exclusive rheological properties that provide high stretch, without compromising strength. Unlike other fillers, Teosyal RHA’s unique Hyaluronic acid chains have high molecular weight as well as long chains of HA, which mimic the natural HA in our bodies. Teosyal RHA fillers were designed for dynamic facial movement and thanks to this advanced technology, Teosyal fillers can achieve effective and natural results, without compromising longevity and efficacy of results. Due to their ability to stretch, they move with the face allowing for more natural expressions. Dermal fillers can restore volume and symmetry to the face. In this way they can, along with Botox, help correct, reduce, and often eliminate facial wrinkles and folds. They are also the same superior products used for lip enhancement.

During your consultation we will explain which Teosyal dermal filler will improve your specific area of concern. We pride ourselves in creating an artistic accentuation of the individual’s strengths, while minimizing any flaws. This may range from a subtle filling of the lips to a more dramatic creation of natural-looking contoured cheekbones.

How It Works

Fillers are made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance that exists in all our bodies. We lose 50% of your Hyaluronic Acid during the natural process of ageing, The Hyaluronic Acid comes in the form of a crystal-clear gel called Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. It is made by bacteria which have been modified to excrete the acid. It is modified slightly from its natural state. It is stabilized by cross linking molecular chains. If this isn’t done, the Hyaluronic Acid would be absorbed by our body within a few days since our natural, non-linked Hyaluronic Acid is constantly being turned over in our body at a very fast rate. Once injected it attracts water molecules that act as a cushion to prop up our tissues which have lost their volume and elasticity from aging.

They are injected directly just under the skin in tiny amounts through an ultra-fine needle. Some of the fillers are pre-mixed with Lidocaine, an anesthetic agent, which helps to make the procedure more comfortable for you. The procedure is simple and offers visible results right away.

After Treatment

After treatment, you may experience swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the site of treatment. All these symptoms are minor and typically last for less than a week. The use of Tylenol (acetaminophen) is permitted, but often you will find you don’t need it. If the lips were injected, the swelling may be more significant. Arnica gel can be helpful to minimize redness and swelling.

Be careful to guard against infection by keeping the skin clean, especially in the first 48 hours. You may apply a small and gentle amount of makeup after 6 hours. Avoid excessive rubbing or manipulation of the skin. Aspirin, alcohol, and heavy exercise are okay after 24 hours.

The gel used is quite movable for the first few days so do not press on the treated area and try to sleep on your back. Avoid prolonged exposure to either hot (eg. hot tubs) or cold (eg. skiing) temperatures and prolonged direct sun for at least 2 weeks after treatment, which as we all know should be avoided anyway.

Please report any concerning symptoms such as redness and/or visible swelling that persists for more than 1 week to our office. It is normal to feel the sensation of newly placed filler and this feeling may last a few days to a few weeks. Please schedule a follow-up appointment for 2 weeks after treatment in order to repeat your personal photos and assess the outcome of the injections.

Over the course of the next few weeks, the filler will settle into position and absorb water, improving the initial effect. Fillers usually last for 9-20 months depending on the area treated, the particular type of filler and the total number of syringes used.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr Oakley Smith is the Medical Director and reviews, trains and oversees the clinic. Nurse Injectors treats our patients under  Dr. Smiths’ supervision.

We use exclusively Teosyal. We believe it is the best filler currently on the market.Teosyal fillers can achieve effective and natural results, without compromising longevity and efficacy of results. Because of their ability to stretch, they move with the face allowing for more natural expressions.
It is a naturally occurring complex sugar found everywhere in our bodies. It decreases with age. The largest amounts are found in our skin, connective tissues and eyes. It acts to retain water so our tissues remain well lubricated.
As we age the amount of HA becomes less and less. Fillers restore this loss by augmenting and adding volume to our soft tissues. Even though Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance, because of its concentration and its cross linkage, our bodies slowly reabsorb it.
We lose tissue volume as we age plus our skin loses its elasticity. In addition starting in our thirties, our facial bones slowly reabsorb over time. Fillers restore our lost volume and reposition the soft tissues.
There is an anesthetic added to the filler to reduce the discomfort. After the first injection the anesthetic starts to work by desensitizing nerve endings. In addition topical anesthetic cream can be applied to numb the pain.

As each patient is unique and by listening and getting to know you is important to achieve the best results possible. Our nurses will discuss the different treatment options. Focusing on symmetry, volume and skin health are considered when deciding on filler placement. A numbing cream then is applied. A white surgical pencil is used to map out areas of improvement. A cannula or small needles are used to inject the Hyaluronic Acid in the desired location. A cold pack can be lightly applied to help with swelling and discomfort. Our nurses will explain the aftercare routine and suncare protection. A follow up appointment is made to follow your results.

Fillers can postpone surgery. With the introduction of fillers and other aesthetic treatments over the last several years the number of facial rejuvenation surgeries like facelifts have dropped significantly.
Yes filler can be removed. An injection of Hyaluronidase will break down the filler within a few days. This is very seldom needed.
Yes, fillers are safe. There are rare complications like with any medical procedure or medication. However they are very uncommon and can be treated.
Sometimes, but uncommonly, the body reacts by creating inflammation. This rarely causes any long term problems. Very rarely fillers can inadvertently be injected into a blood vessel and then may cause the vessels to become blocked. The area of skin the vessel supplies loses its oxygen and may die. This is a very serious complication and requires immediate treatment. However in the hands of an experienced injector and since switching to cannulas the incidence is very low.
Microcannulas are blunt tipped needles and for many applications have replaced sharp needles. They are safer as they can push nerves and blood vessels aside instead of puncturing them. Microcannulas are flexible and permit multiple areas to be treated through a single skin puncture decreasing bruising and swelling.
The improvement lasts between six to eighteen months for the vast majority of people. It depends on the amount of filler, the type of filler used, and the natural speed your body absorbs the filler.
The cost is calculated by the number of syringes used. Each syringe is $600. Different areas typically require different amounts. For example, the lips often require just one syringe while the cheeks need one or two per side.
